- Katie and her mom were taking a walk on the beach like they do every year while visiting the shore. Katie's mom had to go back to the house to start dinner, but Katie wasn't done walking in the sand and finding shiny shells. Katie's mom thought about it and realized Katie was old enough now to be on her own for a while and find her way back to the house on her own. "As long as you're back by dinner" her mom said. "I will be" Katie responded.
- Katie had to head back soon so with the rest of the time she decided to sit and watch the sunset when she saw something splashing around in the water. Looking closer she noticed it had a tail, but it also had arms and a head. As it swam up to Katie she asked "are you a mermaid"? "Sure am", pearl remarked. "I knew mermaid were real! but no one is ever going to believe me that I saw you", Katie realized.
- "You know what would make them believe mermaids exist? If you were one". Katie laughed the comment off like a joke until she realized Pearl was serious. "You mean you can actually make me a mermaid? Katie asked. "I can but you have to be sure that's what you want because once you are you can't go back". *Whatever* Katie thought *everything will be fine because I'll be a mermaid*. "Let's do it", said Katie.
- "No way I have a tail!" Katie exclaimed. "I have to go to dinner soon...how do I switch back to my legs"? "Oh. You can't. Remember I told you you can't go back." Pearl explained. "Wait I wasn't thinking I didn't know what you meant, you have to turn me back, how am I ever going to see my family again"? Katie worried. "Maybe you shouldn't have been so rash Katie", Pearl said.
