  • Liuku: 1
  • In the first stage, Odysseus was on Greece's side in the Trojan War. After he won the war, all the soldiers began to sail back home. Odysseus set off to Ithaca. Though "The journey from Troy to Greece does not look... long... it was full of dangers," This is an important piece of information because it gives the reader an idea of why Odysseus was away from home to begin with. With this information, the reader now knows that Odysseus has to travel back to Ithaca because he was off fighting in a war.

  • In the second stage, a storm separates Odysseus's ship from the others, causing them to go off track. "Soon [Odysseus] and his crew had little idea of where they were." The ship ended up on an island called Libya. This is important because it shows how Odysseus went through all the ordeals. If the ship hadn't gotten separated, they wouldn't have had to face all of these obstacles that were to come.
  • Liuku: 3
  • In stage three, Odysseus stops at an island and his crewmates kill and eat one of Helios's cattle, though "Odysseus warned his men to behave peaceably, and not to take anything." In response, Poseidon and Helios destroy their boat while leaving the island causing all the crewmates to die besides Odysseus. This piece of information is important because it tells us why Odysseus ends up arriving at Ithaca alone and without the rest of his men.
