  • The City of the BeastsEagle
  • Nadia soared up and in a few instants' time lost the fear of heights that had always plauged her(Allende 226).
  • And then came Iyomi's third order. She said that the girl eagle must conserve her 'pure soul' to face the Rahakanariwa (Allende 230).
  • 'Why have you brought us here?' 'Beause of the visions. The People of the Mist can be saved by an eagle and a jaguar; that is why you have been invited to the dwellings of the gods' (Allende 249).
  • She breathed in with all her strength so clean air would fill her lungs and travel through her body to the tips of her fingers and toes. She repeated that breath three times without opening her eyes, visualising the eagle, her totemic animal (Allende 290).
  • I believe that the symbol of the eagle in this novel is important to furthering the characterization of Nadia. When the eagle is introduced, we see Nadia overcome her fear of heights and become more connected with the Indian culture. Nadia and the eagle are also very important to plot development because she is the pure soul that is to save the People of the Mist.
