- MILITARISM
- Militarism is a country's army made to help defend their country during an invasion, using sorts of deadly weapons. How militarism led to the start of ww1 was because Germany was quickly catching up to other countries and building a greater army, and because of the new deadly weapons that were being developed, they were used as a tool for surprise attacks. In recent times many countries have started developing nuclear weapons over the years, which can destroy cities and kill millions of people. Countries like North Korea, Russia, and the US have these weapons.
- ALLIANCES
- Countries form Alliances to hold more power in this world. With having a country you form a relationship with, in cases like having a conflict with a different country, forming alliances with countries come in handy because you pose as more of a threat in war and have a better chance of winning with aid. How alliances caused the start of ww1 is because the war became much bigger and there were conflicts all over Europe because of it, for example, if there hadn't been alliances between countries, Serbia and Austria would have fought each other only, and Russia would not have come to Serbia's aid and Germany wouldn't have declared war on Russia. There are alliances in recent times for example Canada is in a alliance with NATO.

- Nationalism is believing your country is better than others and having pride in your country. Ways in which nationalism was a main cause of ww1 is that there were many different groups of people in Austria who wanted to become independent from Austria which caused problems for the empire. But what really started WW1 was when a Serbian patriot assassinated the heir to Austria’s empire Franz Ferdinand and his wife. Many nationalist groups in Austria were willing to do whatever to get their independence because they wanted their own country which later resulted in the assassination of the heir. During recent times nationalism has increased in the covid 19 pandemic, by countries only looking after themselves and becoming selfish by blaming others on the causes of covid, rushing to get medical supplies, and having an oversupply of vaccines while other countries don’t have enough.

- Imperialism is taking over another country for the cause of extending its power/ influence using military force. The way imperialism caused ww1 was because many different groups that were in Austria-Hungary wanted their own country and independence but Austria-Hungary would not give them their own land, they also controlled Bosnia which belonged to Serbia but Austria-Hungary colonized the land, Serbians wanted their land back but because Austria wouldn’t give it to them Serbian nationalists resulted in violence which triggered ww1. Most of the countries in the world have their independence but the Us owns the US virgin islands which are a non self governing-territory .
