  • What is interviewing? What types of interviews are there out there?
  • Have fun learning! There are many types of interviews out there to learn about!
  • So what the heck is an interview?? Glad you asked! An interview is a structured conversation when someone asks questions and the other provides a response
  • The interview can be with a stranger or someone you know. You may be most familiar with the concept of job interviewing.
  • Although, interviews don't have to be for hiring purposes. People can take advantage of interviewing others for the purpose of gathering information.
  • The graphics below provide information on the types of interviews, as well as what that type of interview looks like in a real-world setting.
  • There are three types of interviews we will cover: behavioral interviews, reference interviews, and informational interviews.
  • In my last role, my team and I organized a presentation. I took the initative to delegate different roles accordingly.
  • A behavioral interview is a technique hiring managers use to connect a candidate's past performance to measure their future performance.
  • Describe a time when you had to step up and demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Your responses reveal to the hiring manager your skills, abilities, and your personality for this role. Questions are meant to cause candidates to think critically.
  • A reference interview is an exchange between the librarian and patron. The purpose of this interview is for the librarian to ask a series of questions related to the patron's inquiry to ensure the information needs of the patron.
  • Where can I find information on bees?
  • Reference interviews can happen on the phone, in-person, or even through an online chat service. Some reference interviews end after one question, while other inquiries may take several minutes while the librarian proposes a series of questions.
  • What type of bees are you looking for in particular?
  • Why did you decide to work in this industry?
  • An informational interviewis a type of conversation when a person seeks information on a career path or field with an expert.
  • These interviews are more informal and relaxed; discussions can happen in the office, but can occur in places like a coffee shop. The focus is to make that important connection for your future career.
