Jefferson's Embargo Act allowed for trade to be outlawed between America and any foreign port particularly that of Britain, effectively closing in the American economy. • Battle of TippecanoeOn November 11, the Battle of Tippecanoe was fought between American soldiers and Native Americans along a river in central Indiana. Following the Treaty of Fort Wayne, an 1809 agreement requiring Indiana tribes to sell three million acres of land to the U.S government, an Indian chief named Tecumseh organized a confederation to fight the Americans who were encroaching on their land. • The Battle of Lake ErieWith the rise of nationalism in America, the U.S declared war against Great Britain in 1812 while Great Britain declared war up until 1813 with the Battle of Lake Erie being fought about 9 months after. This was a battle between the U.S and Britain that had left 27 Americans dead and 96 wounded whereas there were 40 British soldiers killed and 94 wounded. The battle had forced the British to abandoned Detroit which made it possible for the U.S to take over Lake Erie and the territorial northwest.
  • Burning of White HouseOn August 24, 1814, due to the White House being an easy target for the British and easy access from the sea, as well as the inability for the inexperienced American troops to defend this location as a way to also crush American spirits of nationalism the White House was burned as well as a form of retaliation for the American attack on the city of York in Ontario, Canada as well as torching other public buildings in Washington. But once the British troops arrived in Baltimore, American troops were readily onsetting a victory in their favor.
