  • Omelas was a city, and it was summertime which brought a festival to the city. This festival was by the sea. It had boats in the harbor and gardens. The people were happy and dancing. The north side of the city boys and girls were getting their horses ready.
  • CLIMAX
  • The conflict the people had bad habits encouraged by pendants and sophisticates. The people of Omelas were known for being happy. People consider them to be happy rather stupid. The omelas had lost hold; they had no idea how to describe what a man was now.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • The festival starts, everyone is happy the horses are brought out and the youth are eating pastries. Trumpets are playing while the horses get ready to run their race. The festival of summer has now begun and everyone seemed happy.
  • RESOLUTION
  • Later on in the story there is a room where a child sits no one knows if it is a little boy or a litThe child looks to be six years old but is really closer to ten. He or she looks to have been born defective or it has gone through neglect and malnutrition. People are scared of the child and beat the child to stand up.
  • The falling action is that the mother of the child always says let me out and I will be good, but no one can help. The omegas all know it is there, some have even come to visit. The Omelas are not to exchange a word with the child, or they would either and be destroyed. The terms are strict and absolute.
  • After some of the girls or boys see the child they ddoes not go home to cry they don’t go home at all. They go out into the street and walk down the street alone and walk straight out of the city of omelas. They go west or towards the mountains. The ones who walk away from Omelas are now free.
