  • The Physician's Tale is the 15th story in The Canterbury Tales
  • Climax
  • Virginius, a knight, has a child, Virginia. She is a beautiful young girl. They live a normal life with their mother.
  • Falling Action
  • Virginia and her mother were in town when a judge, Apius, sees Virginia and is love-struck by her beauty. He is determined to have her. He sends a criminal, Claudius, to falsely accuse Viginius of have stealing Virginia from Claudius' house and pretending that she is his daughter. 
  • Resolution/ Lesson
  • Before going to court, Virginius tells his daughter she must accept either death or shame at the hands of Claudius and Apius. Virginia wants to remain pure. She faints and her father beheads her. 
  • Virginius returns to the judge with Virginia's head. The judge orders the knight the be hung for murder. People are mad by Apius's lies and imprisons the judge.
  • Requested by the people, the judge is to be hung. Claudius pleads mercy and suggests exile instead. The moral of the story is the wages of sin is death.
