  • Most immigrants started by walking on foot or horse to the ship. This is important because this is where everything started to become American Citizens

  • The trips on the boat were very rough, there was many people on the boats so it was really crowded, the first thing they saw was the Statue of Liberty. This is important because this where they first enter America and get to see there is hope

  • Immigrants first stop was here and they wait on the stairs to go the next stop This is important because this is the first place they go on Ellis Island
  • Stairs to the registry room
  • The waiting area in the Great Hall had long metal rails that helped maintain an orderly line as people went through the medical and legal inspections. This is important because this is the first test they have.

  • After the medical and legal inspections. This staircase had three aisles. Immigrants who were being detained were often brought down the center aisle. People who were traveling west or south walked down the right side of the staircase. Those going to New York City or to the north walked down the left side. This is important because this is the end of Ellis Island.

  • Everyone kissed and hugged each other. This is inportant because they are done with everything and there finally in America.
