  • After the narrator received a strange letter from his childhood friend Roderick Usher asking to visit him at the House of Usher, he decided to do so as he seemed sick and depressed.
  • CLIMAX
  • Roderick without warning told his childhood friend that Madeline was dead and he wanted to put her in a coffin and place her in the home cellar for 2 weeks before placing her on the family tomb.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • While the narrator was reading the book, he started to hear screams and noises coming from the House of Usher cellar, hoping that his friend didn’t hear them. The narrator panics himself due to the terrifying noises, however, Roderick told him that wasn’t the first time that he heard those noises, and he assimilates them as he believes that her sister was put into the coffin alive.
  • RESOLUTION
  • Suddenly noises, stair footsteps and Madeline screams started to be heard more closely, Madeline was alive, both Roderick and the narrator were in fear. There was nowhere to escape and she was already outside the room.
  • She looked as she had a fight and fell in the violent agony of death onto her brother. Brother that was already dead and killed by the terrors he had been afraid of.
  • The narrator ran and escaped from the house while there still was a heavy storm. After crossing the bridge and watching the same crack that he saw on the entry wall when he arrived, he saw it go wider until the house collapsed and disappeared in the mist, leaving the Usher house and the terrifying shadows behind.
