Their secretive behavior sets the stage for the accusations of witchcraft that follow. This moment marks the beginning of the chaos in The Crucible.

- Abigail Williams is talking to John Proctor, telling him, “You love me, John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet!” Here, Abigail is trying to remind John of their past affair, hoping he still has feelings for her. She’s clearly still obsessed with him and wants to rekindle their relationship.

- Betty Parris is lying in bed, seemingly out of it. Her dad, Reverend Parris, is super worried and pacing around. The room feels really tense and dimly lit. The other girls from the woods are gathered around, looking scared and guilty as the first hints of witchcraft start to emerge.
