- I have to dress up as a flapper.
- Awesome. I think that dress will do! It matches perfectly with our script. Maybe my mom will finally let me wear some mascara and lipstick like they did!
- Sounds like a good idea. I've always liked how they were "rule breakers" and not afraid to dress non-traditionally. I have the perfect dress.
- I think the makeup will add a nice touch. You can also pin your hair up to give you the bob hairstyle.

- Will and Luna need some costumes for their school project. They need to dress up as people from the 1920's. The 1920's was a happy era with WWI having recently ended. This caused many social and political changes to occur. Fashion changed and became a big deal during this time. Hollywood was on the rise and many wanted to dress like their favourite movie stars. The 20's style was simplicity but with a bang!

- Luna is dressing up as a flapper for her project. Flappers took over the 1920's. They were seen as "rule-breakers" as their new clothes revealed more legs, arms, and back. These dresses had a slim, straight shape to them as the idea of being skinny and curveless was popular. They often had fringe and beading for a little extra flare. They would pair their dresses with high heels. The bob haircut was reckless as it gave the women a more "masculine" touch while dressing "feminine." Flappers loved to drink, smoke, and attend parties with dancing. The older generation did not approve of them.

- Will settles on wearing Plus-Fours and a soft-collared shirt. This was a very popular outfit among men in the 1920's. Plus-Fours are trousers that had extra material compared to regular fitted pants. The bottom of the pants had a band making the extra material overhang creating the baggy look. Soft-collared shirts where a daily necessity. They could be worn with a suit jacket and tie or as a casual shirt.

- My clothing store for women is nifty. I enjoy helping other janes get dolled up. I don't need the whole married and kids baloney. If I ever got knocked up, I would have to give up my pride and joy.
- Will and Luna's friend, Ben, dressed up as the baby for their project.In the 1920's babies wore clothes often made of cotton or wool. A common outfit for them was rompers/onesies. It was ideal for the mothers when changing diapers and doing laundry. It also allowed the baby to have more freedom when they started to crawl, walk, e.t.c.
- Alright class, enough of that. It is time for our next presentation.

- Presentation: Luna is helping her brother, Will, to babysit his son. She knows that having kids and being married is not for her. As a flapper, her freedom is too important to her. She enjoy's her independence and doesn't want to be committed and married to someone. This was a common occurrence in the 20's. Many women worked during WWI taking over outside labour that the men would normally do. They also received the right to vote in 1918. Their new found independence got them out of the old "traditional ways" of women being married, having kids, and maintaining the house.
- It's alright Ben. Don't cry. Aunt Luna is just trying to help.
- I can't deal with this anymore. I can barely babysit my nephew, forget having one of my own. I would miss the flapper lifestyle. I will never get married and have kids. I'm a total live wire. I rather get ossified at the speakeasy. My store makes enough dough to make me happy.
- Presentation: Many women opened and ran their own businesses in the '20's because there were restrictions on where they could work. Catalog shopping (mail order) had been around for many years but really gained popularity in the 20's when big name companies started using them. A catalog was printed with thousands of products inside. These varied from clothing to furniture to wagons. People would look through the catalogs and then mail in or call to order the products/products they wanted.
- My business is super successful. The newest addition of catalog shopping has really helped me to make more dough. I've had plenty of orders and my store has become the talk of the town.
