- Tensions only tightened when two people ran against each other for mayor. One, Samuel Norris, agreed with the early seettlers. The other, Chichester Chaplin, sided with the new settlers. After voting, Edwards declared Chaplin the winner. Norris and his supporters took the matter to Mexican Jose Antonio Saucedo. He declared Norris the winner. Edwards didn't accept this. Troubles in the colony were just beggining.
- After receiving several angry letters from Edwards' brother, the Mexican government decided to revoke Edwards' empresarioship. He was very angry. Finally, the tension was released, and the settlers of the colony rebelled against the Mexican government. Edwards' own followers captured him, Norris, and a few others and charged them with crimes. The rebels replaced Norris with anew mayor, which was illegal.
- Upon hearing of the rebellion, the Mexican government sent troops to Nacogdoches. Edwards' brother made a risky desicion, and declared the colony independant from Mexico, as the Republic of Freedonia. The colonists gathered at a stone fort to make their stand. The Edwards asked the US and Aurstin for help, but no help came. They had no chance. As soon as Mexican troops approached, the Republic collapsed, some were captured, but many fled to the United States. That was the end to the "great" Freedonian revolution.
