- What a great trip! I learned so much Ms. K. I'm really sad that it is over and that we won't be learning about Washington anymore
- I'm glad you enjoyed it Wayne, but the learning doesn't stop here. This is just one section of the learning cycle where we immersed ourselves in what we already know. By getting into the Capital, we are closing the learning cycle and starting fresh.
- That just sounds like a fancy way of saying we are going to learn something else from now on. Since we already had the big trip this year.
- Oh Wayne, that's not how the learning cycle works.When we go back to Waterloo, the next step is to reflect on everything that we did together. The photos, the videos, the places, the people. I want the class to choose their next topic to become experts in.
- Hmm.. Well I really enjoyed the debating we got to watch. Is that something that we are going to learn about?
- Oh there was so much! I really liked how they had a structure so everyone was able to speak. What's that called?

- Not even close! It's the beginning of a whole new cycle of learning. We will reflect on everything we learned, think about what it all means in our lives, and act on it. Then, we will do something like this trip where we can experience it in real life! That's the experiential learning cycle

- I'm so happy they got to experience Washington - but I'm even more happy that our active experimentation worked! These kids have learned so much over the past week, and I'm excited to dissect with them everything that they did, and to discover their own learning.What kinds of things can I use to motive the class going further? Wayne seemed to really want to learn more about debating, and Nur really enjoyed the public speaking aspect. I think there is something there for everyone. As a teacher who just coached a field trip, it's time for me to put on my facilitator hat and to draw out all of the motivation I can.
