  • Body found
  • Hairs found
  • Prosecution Time
  • I didn't do it! I'm innocent!!
  • On December 31st, 1922, the body of Alma Tirtschke was found in an alleyway near a popular wine saloon. She had been raped, strangled and left naked behind the saloon
  • While conspiracy theories run rampant, investigators had already decided to arrest the saloon owner Colin Ross. The prosecution was based on the golden hairs that were found on blankets in his saloon. They were examined by a government scientist and seemed to match the sample from Alma's scalp
  • The trial was a public one with newspapers swindling jury opinion. Witnesses further seemed to confirm the prosecution case as the two of them said that Ross had confessed to the crime. After hearing witnesses, the judge declared him guilty and sentenced him to hang. In the 1980s however, it would be determined with new technology that the hairs on the blanket weren't Alma's and they had convicted the wrong man
