- The medical exam. The immigrants would get checked to see if they had a any problems with them. The reason that it is important because if they were sick they could get sent back home, or be hospitalized until you got better.
- The legal inspection. The immigrants were asked about their personal history. The reason that it is important because this was where they could be kept longer or sent back if they were a criminal.
