- Walton is on a journey to find the Atlantic Ocean, when he sees a man (Victor) dying on a glacier. He is taken aboard Walton's ship and introduces himself as Victor Frankenstein. He begins telling his story as to how he got to the glacier, starting from his beginning.
- Chapters 13-17
- After years of scientific schooling, research, and isolating himself until he went crazy, Victor discovers how to create life. He spends months constructing a creature that he is horrified of, and when it wakes up he runs away from it.
- Chapters 18-22
- This monster is let loose in the world because of Victor's fear and eventually takes refuge next to a cottage where he watches a family. Victor then learns to read and speak languages and he also discovers what love and companionship is.
- Chapters 23-24
- After months of watching the family and their happiness, he introduces himself, but they reject him. He swears himself revenge on Victor and even kills his brother, William. He then goes on a quest to find him. He demands that Victor creates him a mate so he isn't alone but Victor fears that it could be dangerous.
- Victor is disgusted with the female creature (Carly) he is creating and destroys it. Carl sees this and vows that he will be with Victor on his wedding night, supposedly to kill him.
- After Victor spends time in jail, his father brings him home to Geneva where he marries Elizabeth, and Carl comes to the wedding and kills her that night. Victor goes on a quest to kill Carl, and that is where he meets Walton. He asks Walton to finish his request, but Walton returns to England.
