- I'm on my back on the grass that feels as hard as the sidewalk .... the 20 yards took a whole of two minutes because the kids don't know no better too run the opposite way or run smack into the fence...next was the 30 yard dash as always Raphael Perez wins after that was the forty yard dash which i used to run when i was in first grade... now it my turn i take off my sweat pants and head to the feild i see Gretchen at the starting line kicking her legs out like a pro ..
- I get into place i see Raymond is on the line on the other side of the fence on the ground like he knew what he was doing , i was going to yell at him but that would took too much energy...It was finally time i heard the pistol shot my body became weightless has i fly pass the other runners i glace at my right i saw no one then to my left i saw Gretchen and on the other side was Raymond with his arms down to his side and his palms tucked behind him running in his own style , i almost stop to watch him but the white ribbon was bouncing towards me and i tear past it....... I have won again. I lean down to catch my breath and i see Gretchen walking back and for the fist time i kind of like her. In first place the men on the loud speaker argue then i hear Raymond yanking at the fence to call me but i shh him he keeps rattling on the fence but then like a dancer or something he starts climbing up nice and easy . And it occur to me that Rymond could be a great runner .
- He always keeps up with me on my trots and he knows how to breathe . If i lost i could retire as a runner and become a coach for Raymond ..I stand there with my new plants laughing out Raymond comes Running with his teeth showing and arms down to his side and by the time comes over I'm jumping up and down glad to see him . a great runner in the family Tradition. The men on the speaker has finally announced the winner in fist place Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker in second place Miss Gretchen P Lewis . I glance over to look at Gretchen i wonder if she 'd like to help me coach Raymond. She congratulate me and then she smiles and i smile . We stand there with big smile of respect between us .
