  • When Ancient Egyptians would mummify dead bodies they would start by wasjing the body in water and salt.
  • The method would differ depending on if the person was rich. The less expensive method included injecting the body with seeder tree oil, liquifying the internal organs and then packed with Natron for seventy days then given back to the family.
  • Next, the brain was removed from the body using a hook through the nostils.The body is then split open and all organs apart from the heart are removed.
  • Ancient Egyptians believed that the heart would guide the person into the afterlife
  • The four sons of Horus are Hapi who protected the lungs, Duamutef the stomech, Imsety the liver and Qebehsenuef the intestines
  • The liver, lungs, intestine and stomach were then kept in four canopic jars. One for each organ. Each jar was sculpted as one of the sons of Horus.
  • After that, the body was then stuffed with spices, sewn up and then packed with a special salt called Natron. It was left there for seventy days to prevent flesh from rotting. Later when they took the body out they stuff it with sawdust and Linen.
  • After they were able to get the body back to it's original state they would use oil to soften the sking and use false eye and a wig to more life like. Resign was used to prefent mold then the whole body was wrapped in linen. The body was then placed in a wooden case, but if the person was rich, a stone sarcophagus.
  • Mummies were buried with their belongings because they believed they might need them in the afterlife. Even pets the keep them company.
  • The people of Ancient Egypt used mummification because they believed in several rituals in order to reach the afterlife, then to achieve immortality .Death was seen as a temporary staate, and a dead persons spirit needed a body so they preserved it
