  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Fear can turn people
  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling, one of the main themes is Fear can turn people. My first evidence is when Tommy told Steve not to leave Whoever was in that thing that came over. I don't think they want us to leave and after he said that some people where getting suspicious of him.(pg.74)This supports the theme by showing how when the others heard him say that they started to think that it was him. My second evidence is when Les Goodman's car suddenly started He walks towards the group. He stops suddenly as behind him, inexplicably and with a noise that inserts itself into the silence, the car engine suddenly started. (pg 75) after this happens people start to follow him to his house. This supports the theme by showing how when the people saw this they started to enclose Les to his house. The last evidence that i have is after charlie accidentally killed Pete Van Horn he blamed Tommy as the one who started this. Right after the lights turned on in Charlie's house and then some other people and when that was happening people where blaming so many people at the same time that they just started to fight and cause chaos happened(pg 85). This supports the theme because they where scared of who did this and what will they do to them next. In conclusion the theme of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street is that Fear can turn people.
