We want a stronger Federal government, that can care for us.
After the Revolutionary War, the United States was in debt. They had to pay the soldiers, so they taxed their citizens including the farmers, many of them fought in the war. They especially struggled financially and had to borrow money from the government to start their farms. In Massachusetts local sheriffs put farmers who couldn't pay off their debts in prison. This started Shays' Rebellion.
The farmers in western Massachusetts formed an organization similar to the rebellion during the revolution, and they called special meetings to protest and organize coordinated protests. The resistors came under the leadership of Shay, a former Captain in the Continental Army.
After the Shays' Rebellion, the discontent was everywhere from Maine, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania and many other places. This high level of discontent, popular resistance, and the election of pro-debtor governments threatened the power of many political and powerful people. This helped them have a pro-debtor local government and created a stronger national government.
