  • After Mexico gained its independence they established the impresario system which allowed people from the U.S. to buy and for cheap prices. Stephan f. Austin was the first and most successful impresario bringing 300 families to Texas

  • Mier y Teran sent a report to the Mexican officials saying that if something wasn’t done they could lose Texas. He said that they should make Texas less appealing so there's a lower chance of more anglos coming over from the U.S.
  • The law of April 6th 1830 was established to make texas less appealing. The law included no more slaves could be brought into Texas, you have to pay taxes on anything you bring with you, and it discouraged people to trade.
  • When Mexico took many people captive the plan was to execute them all. After someone wrote a letter to Santa Anna asking if they had to kill them. Santa Anna wrote back saying that it was disobedient of them to ask that and to do it. Many many people were killed that day and it is one reason that helped the Texans overthrow Mexico.
  • The Mexican government gave the Texans a canon so they could protect themselves from the native Americans. The Mexicans then reconsidered the possibility of the Texans using it on them. They asked for the canon back but the Texans said no. They had a war for the canon that killed people that didn’t need to die.
  • This is the battle that won Texas its independence. Sam Houston's army snuck up to Santa Anna’s army and was able to defeat them. After they were able to create the treaty of Velasco. Santa Anna died in poverty.
