- "I have lived in a part of the country where I have learned the worth of good government by the lack of it. Our distress was so great that we should have been glad to grab anything that looked like a government.. Now when I saw this constitution i found it was a cure for these disorders.

- We have seen the necessity of the union
- Who authorized them to speak the language of we the people instead of we the state
