- In the beginning of the chapter it started with praise to Oknonkwo. This shows that Okonkwo is well respected and that he is known for being independent and never giving up. Okonkwo being in the position he js on today is well deserved and people are aware of that.
- The young man ikemefuna that was given to the Okonkwo from Mbaino was forced to go under Okonkwo care. Ikemefuna was afraid at first, all he wanted was to go home even tried running away but he got sick for three weeks and was taken care of by Nwoye's mother which made him overcome his urge to leave.
- Okonkwo was growing a liking to Ikemefuna. When Okonkwo went into village Ikemefuna would accompany him while going to meetings. Okonkwo treated him with a heavy hand and started to become a father figure to him which therefore ikemefuna called him father.
