- Rainsford and Whitney are sailing on a yacht through the Caribbean. They are on their way to the Amazon to hunt. The two have conflicting views on hunting; Whitney has empathy for the animals (that they hunt) while Rainsford thinks that this is ridiculous. Hel after falls of the boat leaning for his pipe.
- GAME
- After Rainsford falls off the yacht he he swims to "Ship Trap Island" where he finds blood from what he guesses was a dead animal. He then stumbles upon a palatial chateau  which he learns is the home of  two men, General Zaroff and  Ivan. The welcome that Rainsford receives is not warm but cold and creepy.
- Winning the game.
- Rainsford is talking to Zaroff while eating dinner. Their talking about hunting when Zaroff says the he "found a new animal" to hunt. Rainsford curious asks what this new animal is.  Zaroff explains that this new animal is "courage, cunning, and, above all able to reason". This leads Rainford to realize that the "new animal" is actually a human. 
- A Good Sleep
- After their talk Rainsford and Zaroff go to their rooms. For some reason Rainsford can't seem to fall asleep. The next day at lunch he finds out that he himself is now the one being hunted. Zaroff explains that if he choses not to play he will get whipped to death by Ivan. he ultimately chooses to play Zaroff's game.
- He figures out some were to hide and makes some traps. he makes a trap that tricks th hounds noses into thinking that the sap that they were smelling was him. Within the same trap that trick is in there is a knife that ends up killing Ivan.
- Later on Rainford makes a big leap into the ocean and end up winning the game. He is later in the castle surprising Zaroff who had previously thought he himself had won. Zaroff slyly states that "One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford..." . He wins and has the best sleep of his life.
