- Erik? The boy ... the boy who was here?—Mike? Is dead
- Mike Costello is dead, Mom. He got killed at practice today. He was just standing there in the end zone. He had one hand on the goalpost, leaning on it, and kaboom! There was a crack, and a flash, and he went flying through the air.
- Mike hadsbeen officially pronounced dead
- Did you see his hair? Did you see the side of his head? He got Mohawked, man!

- I care about my son and what might happen to him.
- Why can't you hold your practices in the morning, for the safety of all?
- Ma'am, I can't ask these players and their parents to give up their sleep, to disrupt their lives, to come out to practice football at six-thirty.
- At least the osprey don't have to smell the muck fire. And their streets don't get flooded every time it rains
- Why? They could short out the power for the whole town. That's a crazy place to build a nest
