Harvey Dent as the Tragic Hero in THE DARK KNIGHT

Hamartia : Harvey Dent’s fatal flaw can be see in his hubris. He believes he is invincible and can take on the mob without consequence. His quest for justice feeds his arrogance and ultimately causes his downfall.
Hubris: Harvey Dent is depicted as the “White Knight” which fuels his excessive pride. He flips a coin to make people believe that he is leaving things to chance when in reality, it is a two headed coin. Harvey’s choice will always be the right one.
Peripeteia: Harvey tells everyone in a press conference that he is Batman which effectively baits the Joker. This leads to the Joker capturing Rachel and Harvey and holding them in different locations to await their fate. Harvey is saved by Batman but his love, Rachel dies.
Anagnorisis: When Harvey wakes up in the hospital, bandages cover his disfigured face. He sees the coin,the very same one he gave Rachel before the kidnapping. It is burned on one side much like his face. Harvey, angry and in pain, becomes“Two Face “; the type of person he hated the most.
Nemesis: Harvey’s grief and anger push him to kill all those who he thought were responsible for Rachel’s death including his friends. Batman is forced to step in and save the commissioner and his son. He had to kill Two Face (Harvey) in order to accomplish this.
