  • So, as we all know the purpose of the meeting is identify the issues and hopefully solutions on why John is not working to his full his potential. We can all agree that John is a bright and clever student, yet his test scores do not quite indicate this. But John, before we discuss this, I would like you to tell us what your strengths are.

  • Well, when I like the material, I work really hard and stay focused. I feel like I am good listener, if I am tired. And I work well in groups.
  • I must agree, you do work well in groups. You take on the role of the leader and guide the group. I noticed that even when you are not interested in the topic, you perk up and get motivated if you do not have to work independently.

  • Well, I like it and I am good it and in cla ss I do everything but at home I just find the energy or desire to complete the HW. I know ifI do the HW, I would score better on tests but I still pass and that is all I need to graduate.

  • Yeah, I hate lectures and taking notes. And writing essays, so boring. I also hate reading but I do not mind when Ms. Litery reads parts of the books a loud. But honestly, I rarely read the books at home. I either have a friend tell me summary or look up the summary online. Sorry, Ms. Litery

  • Musicy- Occasionally,John asks to not participate in band class so that he can complete assignments in another class. Since John excels in my class, I occasionally give him this time. But I noticed that he works much better when listening to music via headphones. Perhaps, we can allow this during independent work time in other classes.
  • · Good with tasks that involve music and building· Work in inconsistent, sometime of very high quality other times rushed and superficial· Tired, often has trouble staying awake· Participates in class, leader· Lack of effort of home· Friendly, kind and well mannered
  • John- yeah-that seems, correctMom- what can do to improve your grades and work harderJohn- well,I need to make a schedule and stick with it. Mom- how will you create the schedule?John-Ms. Sciency uses tasks managers in class. Maybe she can help me make a personal one to budget my time and write out my tasks. This might organize me better as sometimes, I do not start working because I am not sure how and where to start.
  • Tom Mathy
