- The policemen on the beat moved up the avenue impressively. The impressiveness was habitual and not for show, for spectators were few. The time was barely 10:00 clock at night, chill gusts of wind with the taste of rain de-peopled the streets.The policemen was twirling his club and was watching carefully with his stalwart and slight swagger.
- The policemen met a man on a doorway of a darkened hardware store.The man in the doorway struck a match and lit his cigar. The light showed a pale square jawed face with keen eyes and a little white scar on the right of his eyebrow.He wore a large oddly-set diamond pin on his scarf.
- It's alright officer, I am waiting for my friend here. It was an appointment that was made 20 years ago.
- But Long ago, this store was called Big Joe Brady's Restaurant. Until, 5 years it was torn down.
- 20 years ago, I dined here at Big Joe Brad's restaurant with my friend, Jimmy Wells my best chum and the finest chap in the world. He and I, were raised up in New York, just like brothers.

- Oh well, I was 18 and Jimmy was 20 years old. The next morning I was at the West making fortune. We agreed to meet here at the same place exactly after 20 years from that date and time, no matter what conditions might be there. We did to save our destiny.

- Well, yes, for some time we corresponded.We lost track of each other in a year or two. In the West it is pretty big proposition and I kept around it's pretty lively. But I know Jimmy will meet me here if he is alive. - Good night officer said the man. The policemen twirled his club and took a step or two passing on along his beat, trying doors as he went.
- Three minutes to ten it was exactly 10:00 clock when we parted here at the restaurant door.
