Before we do our reading, lets go around and share what you think of when you hear the word Christmas.
Step 1: Discussion with students
I think of lights!
I think of presents!
Singing carols with my family.
Step 1: Discussion with students
Okay, our book for today is "The Christmas Story" by Patricia Pingry.
Step 2: Reading the book
God sent an angel Gabriel to a young woman who lived in the northern town of Nazareth. The girl's name was Mary and she was engaged to marry Joseph.
Step 2: Reading the book
An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and said: 'Don't be afraid to have Mary as your wife.' The angel explained that Mary had been chosen by God to be the mother of his Son and told Joseph that the baby would be named Jesus.
I think of Jesus Christ!
Step 2: Reading the book
The angel said, 'Don't be afraid. I have good news for you and everyone. Today in Bethlehem a Saviour has been born for you. You will find the baby lying in a manger.'
Step 3: Volunteer Discussion with students
The end. Now that we finished "The Christmas Story," would anyone like to share what the meaning of Christmas is?
Step 3: Volunteer Discussion with students

Step 4: Activity to remember what was taught
Step 5: Apply activity to out-of-class environment
Yay!
Awesome!
I will place the paper on the activity table. Have fun coloring the scenes, just remember that Jesus is the reason for the season and that you will take this paper home and share The Christmas Story with your family.
Mom, dad, I would like to read "The Christmas Story" to you both. Okay, so God sent an angel...
