- Next are Consumers. Consumers are organisms that obtain their energy by consuming other organisms.There are different types of consumers, including herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. Herbivores feed on plants, carnivores feed on other animals, and omnivores consume both plants and animals. Each type of consumer has a specific role in the ecosystem.
- And last but certainly not least, decomposers. decomposers,are organisms such as bacteria, fungi, and certain types of insects that feed on dead plants and animals. They break down these organic materials into simpler substances.Without decomposers, dead organisms would pile up, and nutrients would be locked away, unable to be reused.
- Now let's review all we learned! Producers, such as plants and algae, use photosynthesis to produce their own food using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide. Consumers rely on consuming other organisms for energy. Herbivores feed on plants, carnivores hunt other animals, and omnivores have a diet that includes both plant and animal matter.
