- In chapter one we are introduced into the main character (and narrator) Jim and an old sea faring man

- A scary pale man with two fingers missing (Black Dog) looking for the captain whom he calls 'Billy Bones' walks into the Admiral Benbow Inn and has a sword fight with Billy, which causes him to have a stroke
- Karma for Pew
- Jim's father passes away and Jim goes for his funeral. After the funeral, a scary, blind old beggar shows himself at the inn and grabs jim by the arm and threatens to break it if he doesn't take him to Billy. Jim takes him to Billy and the blind man (Pew) gives Billy 'the black spot, which results in another stroke that kills Billy

- Jim and his mother go to the town and ask people to help them because Jim knows that they want to steal the Captain's sea chest, but no-one will so Jim and his mum rummaged his chest and found some sealed papers and they took what he owes them for staying in their home. After hearing the tapping of blind Pew's stick, they frantically run and hide
- Jim sees that the blind man has returned with a group of people who ransacked his home, looking for something that had belonged to Bill. A group of people on horses appear on a hill and ride to Pew and his crew. Pew's crew flees and leaves Pew, who then gets trampled and dies.
