- King Solomon was the son of King David. His mother's name was Batsheba. His kingdom stretched as big as Mesopotamia to Egypt to Syria. He ruled for 40 years!When his father died, Solomon had a dream where God was asking him what he wanted most. Solomon said he wanted to be able to tell right from wrong. He became one of the wisest men of all time.
- King Solomon made lots of decisions during his rule. One of them involved two mothers. Each had a baby, but one woman's baby died. One night, the woman whose baby had died took the other woman's and claimed the baby belonged to her. The woman whose child was taken asked Solomon to prove the baby was hers, but Solomon said they could just cut the baby in half and each mother could have half a baby. The mother who stole the baby didn't want to do that. So Solomon gave one of the mothers the baby back. Which do you think got the baby?
- It is said that Solomon had 12,000 horses and 1,400 chariots. That's a lot!
- Solomon built many buildings, for example a castle that took thirteen years to finish! He also built the first Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The Ark of the Covenant containing the Ten Commandments was placed in the temple. Solomon also wrote most of the Book of Proverbs in the Bible.
- In between 970 and 931 B.C.E, King Solomon's rule, the Israelites had much peace and prosperity with the neighboring lands.
- When Solomon died, the 12 Israelite tribes fought and divided themselves into the Kingdom of Judah and the Kingdom of Israel.
