- Back home there are men that are trying to date his wife so that they can take over Odysseus kingdom. His son Telemachus is now a young man but can't stop them from trying to date his mom. He thinks that his dad is dead.
- Telemachus see Penelope in the quarters upset over a song that they are singing . She is surprised that he rebukes her.
- All of the Greek heroes except Odysseus have returned home.
- Odysseus is stuck on a remote island Ogygia with the goddess Calypso. She has fallen in love with him and will not let him leave the island.
- Telemachus gives the men notice that he will be holding an assembly where he will order them to leave his father's estate.
- Antinous and Eurymachus are defiant and rebuke Telemachus and they question him about who Penelope is and he tells them that it was a friend of his dad.
- Athena travels to Ithaca to talk to Telemachus. She predicts that his dad is alive and he will return soon to Ithaca.
- At the assembly the next day Aegyptius speaks first and praises Telemachus for stepping up into his father's shoes. This is the first assembly since Odysseus left.
- Telemachus tells no one about his trip because he doesn't want to upset his mom. He only tells Eurycleia. She begs him not to take the trip like his dad did but he said that he will be ok because he has a god at his side.
- A pair of eagles are fighting overhead and Halitherses says it that their struggle means that Odysseus will be returning and warns them that they will face a massacre if they don't leave.
- Telemachus refuses to throw his mom out.
- Athena disguised as Mentor, visits Telemachus again while he is getting ready for his trip to Pylos and Sparta. She predicts that it will be a good trip.
- Penelope said that she would choose a husband as soon as she finished weaving a burial shroud but each night she would undo what she had done so that she would never be finished
- They don't believe Halitherses and the assembly ends in a deadlock.
- Athena then disguises herself as Telemachus and collects loyal crew to man his ship.
