- Microorganisms that cause diseases are called pathogens.Diseases can be caused by bacteria as well as virus.Some diseases, if not treated properly, can eventually cause death.
- Cholera is an infectious disease that is caused by a bacteria called vibrio cholerae. It is like severe watery diarrhea and if not treated properly, it can cause death. It is caused when you eat/drink contaminated food /water. You can prevent it by maintaining proper hygiene and eating properly cooked food and drink clean water. Anitibiotics are used to treat cholera and there are also vaccines for it.
- Tuberculosis is a disease caused by a bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis.It mainly affects the lungs. If not treated properly it will probably kill you and can be spread to those who are around you. It can be spread through the tiny droplets in the air when somebody coughs or sneezes. Somebody who has TB, is isolated in a room so that it doesn't spread. There are vaccines given to prevent tuberculosis.
- Chicken pox is a highly contagious infection caused by a virus called varicella zoster virus. Although it can be uncomfortable, most people recover in 1-2 weeks. It is highly risky for people who haven't had the disease or haven't got vaccines to prevent it. It is a blister-rash that first appears on the face, then spreads throughout the whole body. There are vaccines to prevent chicken pox.

- Polio is a disabling and life- threatening disease which is caused by the poliovirus. It can spread from person to person. It infects ones spinal cord causing paralysis. It can cause permanent disability. Polio can also cause death by paralyzing muscles which help in breathing. There are vaccines that help in preventing polio.
