- Arachne came across an old lady, and insulted her and Athene.
- The old lady revealed herself to be Athene. And accepts the weaving challenge.
- Arachne weaves the scene that insults the gods, which angers Athene. Out of anger, Athene destroys it.
- Arachne threatens to hang herself. Athene turns her into a spider so she can weave for the rest of her life.
