- T.J Jones lives in Cutter, a primarily white city, with his adopted parents. T.Js was neglected and abandoned by his biological mother which was a drug addict. He began with many rage issues but with the help of his parents and therapist, he was able to mature within the years.
- T.J's teacher, Mr. Simet, wants him to create a swim team. T.J was a great swimmer but has left the sport behind due to bullies which he really dislikes.
- NO SWIMMING TEAM LETTERING
- T.J helps to recruit and form the Cutter High School swim team. The team consists of Chris Coughlin, Andy Mott, Simon DeLong, Jackie Craig, Dan Hole, and Tay-Roy.
- The team attends swim meets and bond together as a team. The team is able to grow closer than they did before.
- The antagonists, Mike Barbour, a great bully, and the football coach, campaign to stop the swim team from receiving their letterman jackets. Another main antagonist is Rich Marshall, a former athlete at Cutter that mentors Mike. Rich is incredibly racist and abusive with rage issues.
- T..J found out that the athletic council went against the letterman jacket requirements needed for them to receive one. Out of anger, T.J purposely loses the swim meet but when Chris defeats Mike in a swim-off, the council changes their decision. Every swim team member is able to get a letterman jacket but T.J.
