  • The people were very angry so they started a rebellion. They Rebeled against mexicanauthority. This didn't help Edwqrds situation at all. Instead, it increased tension between Texas ane the Mexican government.
  • You must show me clear titles for this land or you can't live here. Leave soon or pay me for the land.
  • There was once a land grant granted to a man named Haden Edwards. He was required to get 800 families to live in his land. He recognized their rights if they had legal titles but many of the families did not. Edwards was pretty mad so made everyone follow the rule: "Show me your clear titles or you can't live here. Another option is paying me."
  • The people seized Noris and Edwards himself. Many believed that Edwards was seized to make it look like he did nothing. Rebels replaced Noris with a new mayor as well. They went on to create their own independent state called the Republic of Fredonia.
  • Next a disputed election made things even worse. Though Edwards elected Chaplin, Saucedo elected Norris. This made people angry. Haden edwards left his brother incharge for a little bit because he was away from his colony and things went wrong. His brother angered mexiacan officials with many angry letters
  • After the horrible incident with edwards brother, Officals came to an agreement. Edwards just lost his land grant. which angered Edwards.

  • After asking Austin's colony and the UNited States for help (they got no answer). Instead Stephen F. Austin helped end the revolt. Their hopes and dreams were crushed when Mexican troops started coming by in January 1827. Some fredonians were captured and others ran away across the Sabine River in to the United states
