- Okonkwo had gotten his gun to go hunting but his second wife, beaten by Okonkwo previously provoked him by saying that Okonkwo was not experienced with guns.What his second wife said triggered him and so he shot her but missed. - character to character
- Okonkwo and the towns people had received an oracle to kill Ikemefuna, the son Okonkwo brought from the other village.
