  • Chris, it does not matter if you're bad. One, we are your friends. Two, how can you get better without even trying. We can help you too!
  • What! Why can't you come? All our friends will be there it will be fun.
  • Hey Linda, I can't go to the softball game this weekend.
  • I hear you, but I'm not good at softball and I am not trying to put that on display in front of our friends.
  • Embarrass? What do you mean?
  • Exactly Chris. You're putting to much pressure on yourself if you try and hide all your weaknesses. Just live and enjoy life, and depend on others Its not a sin.
  • Chris that's a really lousy excuse. I used to think weakness, neediness, and vulnerability was a bad thing. But it's not, we're human after all.
  • As I said I am not good. Its a weakness of mine so I would rather hide it away than confront it.
  • Linda I'm good without playing. I suck at all sports, not just softball and I try not to embarrass myself.
  • In my studies I learned that depending on others is not a bad thing. In fact its natural for us, in the sense of being apart of a large ecosystem of humans and nonhuman components.
  • Being vulnerable, in your case playing a sport infront of other people, is human and applies to any way you shy away from weakness in your life.
  • Alright that is kind of confusing, could you explain more?
  • Ah. So you're saying in general I should not be embarrassed by weakness, and embrace it?
  • No one there is going to judge you and me, and even if they did it doesn't matter. Don't worry trust me.
  • Hey Tom, after school do you want to go to the gym. I know you haven't gone before but I think it will be fun.
  • I'd rather just do pushups at home. At the gym its a bunch of buff guys who know what they're doing and then there will be tiny old struggling.
  • Man look I would rather do it alone, even if I barely have any gym equipment at home.
  • I can't make you go Tom but you need to learn to accept dependency. You're not going to be able to accomplish it all alone. Take my help and any one at the gyms help.
  • Tom, you might struggle at the gym or look weak compared to other people but there are people there to help! Trainers and other people who want to help other people. Its like a community.
  • Pete I'll think about it and let you know after the last bell.
  • So like you depend on other people to move the super heavy weights? I don't know man.
  • Exactly Tom. Before I started going a few months ago I felt the same way. I didn't want to feel weak or acknowledge my vulnerability. I've always been weak and self conscious about it.
  • I'll go to the gym with you. I guess I could just accept and embrace who I am, dependent as that may be. I need help to make progress and I shouldn't have to do it alone
  • I suppose my vulnerability should never be something I use as an excuse for anything. I just need to walk with my chest up and not be afraid to depend on others when I need to.
