  • How Freud Sees Me
  • I'm so glad I am able to play soccer and channel my aggression on the field instead of getting into fist fights with my siblings at home!
  • How Adler Sees Me
  • "Give me back my water bottle now! Stop taking my things"
  • I really cannot continue to keep stopping them from fighting.
  • "No I don't want to give it back and you can't make me"
  • How Costa/McCrae Sees Me

  • Sigmund Freud was a proponent of the defense mechanisms, believing that we distort to a more acceptable, less threatening form. One of the defense mechanisms we can use is called sublimation. This is the transfer of unacceptable impulses to socially acceptable channels. In this story I used sublimation to channel my aggression and anger towards my younger siblings into soccer which is a more acceptable way of expressing my anger. I can take my anger out on the ball and my opponent rather than my siblings.
  • How Eysenck Sees Me
  • "Instead of going to the party tonight where I know I will have anxiety, I am going to stay home and watch movies where it will be quiet".
  • Alfred Adler believed in sibling influences (birth orders) and feelings of inferiority. He focused on the fight against feelings of inferiority at the core of our personality. He was apart of the birth order theory where the order in which you're born in the family can impact your personality. Since I am the first born, I am supposed to be perfect, a rule follower, and I have high expectations. So as the eldest sibling I am always being the mom of them and trying to break them up from fighting.
  • How Bandura Sees Me
  • "I failed my test because my teacher doesn't know how to teach the material well"! "It's all their fault, it's not my fault I failed"!
  • "I aced my test because I studied for so long and I went and got extra help to make sure I passed my test, I'm so great"!
  • I'm not sure either, but I will always help you out and be there for you"!
  • Costa and McCrae were a proponent of the Trait Theory Big 5. This is where they believed we had five personality traits that appeared to be inherited and would appear at an early age. One of the five traits is conscientiousness, which is about self-discipline, order, willingness to achieve, following schedules, and is always prepared. This is the trait that describes me the best and because of my preparation for tests I am always ready for whatever the test may have.
  • How Horney Sees Me
  • "I just don't understand why coach always blames me for everything that goes wrong. He obviously doesn't like me. That's why I talk to you because you always help me and are always kind to me. ".
  • Eysenck was a proponent of the 2 Factor Model which was where our personalities had a function of 2 basic dimensions which we vary. There are Extraversion vs. Introversion and Stability vs. Instability. I am an instable introvert. Which means that I am moody, anxious and restless for the instability part. For the introversion part I am thoughtful, reserved and quiet. This would explain why I did not want to go to the party because it would make me anxious and it would be very loud.

  • Bandura was a proponent of the self-serving bias. This is where we take credit for our successes and we blame others for our failures. In this story I am blaming my teacher for not being able to "teach" the material all because I didn't do well on my test which wasn't the case. Whereas I compliment myself and say I'm the greatest whenever I get a good test score.
  • Horney was a proponent of how to cope with a lack of love. There are three different coping mechanisms which include, compliance, aggression, and withdrawal. In this case I am seeking out my coach who is also a teacher who has always been kind to me and helpful whenever I am in a situation with my soccer coach. In this case I am using the compliance mechanism where I move toward someone who is kind.
