  • Hmmm... Hamza, instead I would like you to observe what you do everyday and if you use maths for solving anything. Come and tell me tommorow what you did.
  • Ma'am. can you explain why we should learn maths and where it is used in our everyday life ?
  • Hmmm... the game costs 250 AED and I have saved up only AED 125. I need to save up hmmm... 250 - 125 = 125 more. and my allowance is only 50 AED per month..
  • So that means I need to save for hmmmm.... 50 x 2 = 100, 50 x 3 = 150.Oh... So I will need to save for 3 months more to buy the game.
  • Oh... Thats weird.. I just solved it using maths..
  •
  • Thanks mum. I have 6 friends, so 7 people including me. Then it means if each of us gets 3 slices then that totals hmmmm.. 7 x 3 = 21. 21 pieces.
  • Mum, can I call my friends over ?
  • And a medium pizza has 4 slices each then we need to order 4 x 6 = 24 so, I need 6 pizzas.
  • Sure, but since I am busy, you can order pizza.
  • Well done, you just used maths to solve it !!
  • One day during Maths class Hamza was bored of the sums and asked Ma'am why he should learn maths and where it is used in daily life.
  • And if each pizza costs me 12 AED then its is 12 x 6 = 72 AED in total.
  • So I need to pay you 72-50 = 22.22 Dirhams.....OK...
  • That is correct...
  • But I will only pay you 50 Dhs. The rest you need to pay from your pocket.
  • When he gets back home from school, he hears that the new Minecraft video game has been released, but it costs 250 AED. He thinks to himself, unknowingly using math to solve his problem.
  • Later in the afternoon, he asked his mother if he could invite his friends over for dinner. His mother agreed but said that since she was busy he could order pizza. Hamza knew that 6 of his friends were coming over and used maths once again to calculate the number of pizzas required.
  • Oh... Ma'am was right! We do use maths so many times in our daily life !
  • Then his mother told Hamza that she will only pay 50 AED for the pizza and the rest he will need to pay with his pocket money. Hamza again calculates the amount of money he would have to spend to invite his friends home.
  • When he returned back to class the next day, he happily narrated the previous day's happenings and how he solved the same using Maths.
  • That night, while sleeping, Hamza suddenly realized that no matter where and how we do use maths most of the time in our daily lives.
