- With this secret society (young Italy) I will fight for the unification of Italy by revolting.
- During 1830s, Guiseppe Mazzini had sought to put together a coherent programme for a unitary Italian Republican . He formed a secret society called young italy for dissemination of his goals . But he failed in the revolutionary uprisings of 1831 and 1848.
- Italy has had a long history of political fragmentation. I KING VICTOR EMMANUEL II, the ruler of Sardinia-Piedmont will unify all the seven Italian states.

- In the 19th century , Italy was divided into seven states, of which only one, Sardinia-Piedmont, was ruled by an Italian princely house. The north, the centre and the souuthern region were under the Austrian Hamburgs, pope and the Bourbon kings of Spain respectively.
