- Nora had just wrapped up her conversation with Krogstad. He's just said something that worries her, and it's made her nervous. Helmer, her husband, is expected home soon, and she hopes to persuade him not to fire Krogstad. Mrs. Linde returns to inform Nora that she must keep Helmer occupied.
- Rank stands at the doorway while Torvald questions Nora about why she isn't dressed up, and she asks him to help him rehearse the dance to prevent him going into the mail box.
- Torvald was on his way to the mailbox, checking to see whether any letters had arrived. Nora, on the other hand, began playing the first note on the piano. Torvald comes to a complete halt and turns around, playing the rest of the song while assisting Nora with her dancing. Rank is standing behind the piano, keeping an eye on things.
- Mrs. Linde arrives, unsure of what to do or say, as Rank plays the piano and Helmer assists Nora in dancing.
- The maid comes in and says the dinner is ready.
- On the way to the dining room Rank and Torvald whisper to each other and Mrs. Linde and Nora talk to each other as well on the way there.
