  • The King
  • The king, and not the people, held sovereign power. From Paris and their chateaux in the countryside, the kings of France and their entourage, depending on the circumstances, took a more or less keen interest in the colonies. In the beginning, they simply delegated administration to trading companies. The King also created the Sovereign Council.
  • Governor General of New France, was the representative of the king, the main figure of the colony, and commander in chief of the army. From the noble class, he led the Sovereign Council.

  • What should I bring up at the Sovereign Council? I would might as well bring up that the King wants more soldiers and men to fight for more land and protect New France.
  • European women took part inbuilding convents, and educating young girls. Cared for their homes and children and helped manage the family finances. Women worked very hard alongside their husbands in the fields. Girls received a better education than they did in France. The daughters of wealthier families went to boarding schools in the towns. Other families sent their daughters to schools in the countryside
