- Hey Jimmy, if unlike most heterotrophs he don't have lungs or meaty organs so how do we actually breath?
- So glad you asked bill, you see while we are producers and don't have meaty organs, but we do have chloroplast where we take solar energy and water which yields oxygen
- Wait but how exactly do we turn sunlight into oxygen? And how does oxygen feed us?
- Well in our cells, wrapped in a cell membrane which is wrapped in a cell wall, we are able to take the oxygen, slap some ATP created from the Mitochondria and mix everything with Carbon Dioxide. This creates Glucose
- But how do we continuously do this?
- During this process we are able to take that glucose, oxygen, water and carbon dioxide and use them in equations
- Wait so what is this equation and how does it give us energy?
- Well the equation for photosynthesis starts out with taking Carbon dioxide and water as reactants and yields glucose as the product
- So what about the other one? Cellular Respiration?
- The equation for cellular respiration is quite the opposite. We take glucose and with help from chemical energy turn it into water and oxygen
- I know animals don't photosynthesize but do they do cellular respiration?
- Sure they do! every single living thing does cellular respiration
