  • Angela becomes involved with socialist and communist ideas
  • Young Angela chose to attend a small private school known as the 'Little Red School House' in Greenwich Village in New York City. During this process, she became involved with socialist and communist studies. As well as that, she became friends with children of the Communist Party leaders, including a lifelong friend of hers.
  • “Angela Davis was awarded a full scholarship to Brandeis University in Massachusetts, where she met German-American philosopher Herbert Marcuse” Herbert Marcuse and she took part in a political rally during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In the summer, she visited Paris and Helsinki here and took part in the World Youth and Student Festival. Davis was inspired by the Cuban students and became one of Fidel Castro's supporters.

  • “Davis returned to East Germany for her Ph. D. in philosophy from Humboldt University in East Berlin. Back in California she worked as a lecturer at UCLA during the 60s. She emerged as the leader of Communist Party USA in the 1960s and had close ties to the Black Panther Party. She has advocated for the abolishment of prisons and the prison-industrial complex.”
