  • My project needs some audio! Maybe some music?
  • Copyright Use
  • My project needs some video! Maybe I'll use someone else's footage or create my own?
  • My project could use some images! Maybe I'll find someone else's photo or take my own?
  • Hey, I heard that you guys are working on a project too! Want to help each other find legal sources for our media?
  • Sure! I'd be happy to help! In order for use to have successful projects we must find proper alleys when selecting media!
  • I'm game! I think what we need to do is understand what copyright rules apply to our particular needs! Let's go to the coffee shop and do some research!
  • Next, I see that there is a thing called creative commons! These are sources where creators give permission for others to use their work, with certain rules of course. This might be a great source to use when selecting music clips!
  • Oo, looks like there's a thing called traditional copyright! It says that any work cannot be used without the consent of the author. I better be careful to cite when I select the footage from the internet for my project if I go this route.
  • Last, I see is the fair use option! This is where work can be used and altered by anyone as long as it is created before 1923 or is placed in the public domain! Could be a great option for finding photos to save me some time!
  • If we go the copyright route, you and I need to be aware of some time limitations.
  • Looks like for music, you can use 10% of a piece as long as it doesn't go over 30 seconds.
  • And for you, my new friend, you can also use up to 10% of some footage but no more than 3 minutes instead!
  • Great! And then all we would need to do is cite our source properly!
  • Just make sure that you include the name of the author and the date it was created even if you are using it from a creative commons.
  • That's right! Even for me, attributing the source for my photo's or pictures that aren't my own would make my project more authentic and keep me out of trouble!
  • Now that we know our limits on media that has a copyright I think that we are good to go!
  • I feel much more comfortable now that I know not to just pull sources willy-nilly! High-fives all around!
  • Thanks again for your help! We made a great team! See you around!
