- Ashoka the Great conquered many kingdoms when he became the ruler of the Mauryan Empire.

- After the battle against the kingdom of Kalinga, Ashoka saw the destruction and decided that he wanted peace and no more violence.
- After the blood shed and the change of heart, Ashoka became a Buddhist. He also encouraged is subjects to follow him in his decision of conversion. Now instead of the great conquer, he is a calm and caring Buddhist follower
- He built many worshiping places around his state. He spread peace and prosperity everywhere he went.
- He built many farms to support agricultural needs.
- Because of Ashoka, people had a choice of what religion they wanted to follow. He changed from war fighter, to peace spreader.
