- Many set out to California in hopes of finding gold and becoming rich. One of the major hardships was how many people were there with a lack of policemen to keep everyone in check many got hurt. Only few found gold. While many people didn't find the gold they were looking for California had enough people to become a state in 1850
- Mountain Men in Oregon Country
- We'll help you through the trail!
- Americans who believed that their beliefs and government was superior to others, believed that the West was given to them by god. Helped American's idea of westward expansion.
- The Oregon Trail
- Mexico and America both wanted control over Texas and with the annexation of Texas Mexico was upset. A war that lasted a year and 8 months ended with America gaining control over California, New Mexico and Arizona
- Mormons in Utah
- Finally somewhere to settle down and practice religion!
- A group of people who used their wilderness expertise to survive off the land. Established forts and trails

- A trail that helped thousands looking to move West. Very dangerous, filled with disease, hunger, and rigorous terrain.

- With the Mormons being persecuted because of there religion the Mormons headed west to seek refuge in Utah. Thousands moved and followed
